What we can learn from the penguin spiral
Seeing what we know happening in our world today, we could become like the penguins. They know how to take care of each other.
Here is how the spiral works. A colony of penguins close in on each other to form a spiral to protect themselves from the devastating cold weather conditions their environment imposes.
The penguins on the outer spiral are the coldest.
The spiral of the penguin colony moves in such a way to spin to exchange the warm penguins to the outside and the cold ones to the inside to warm up.
This way everyone has equal opportunity to get warm.
Who in our society are the coldest and on the outside?
I learned about the penguin spiral from international ambassador for Black Lives Matter, Janaya Future Kahn on her Instagram weekly Sunday Sermon @janayathefuture. They believe that those who are coldest – most at risk -today are Black Trans Women. Yes. And indigenous peoples and our unhealed elderly.
Bring those on the outside, in
How can we show love to all people, especially the coldest ones? We all can be wrapped in warmth and to wrap others in warmth.
Let’s be like the penguins in their spiral.
