Amplify Your Vocal Presence

Your voice is one of your most valuable assets in meeting your objectives as it expresses and holds your intention.

There are many vocal elements such as projection, emphasis, modulation (intonation), pause, tone, timber, cadence, etc. Here we speak about vocal resonance.

It’s rumored that whenever Chopin played, he never played forte. * But between piano and mezzo he found so many steps or gradients that by the time he got to mezzo it sounded like thunder (or the illusion of thunder.)

This artistically makes the point about the need for shading or fine-tuning the voice when speaking.

“A voice without an echo dies.” Create “a cello world”, a sounding board. When you speak with resonance, it comes back to you and enlarges.”  Your mouth acts like a built-in echo chamber, and when you develop resonance in your voice, your voice will stand out above everybody else’s.  If your “echo chamber” is not exercised regularly you will lose your resonance.

REMEMBER all the sounds you make with your voice should be coming from your diaphragm whereas your mouth is used merely to shape the sounds. Vocal coaching and training will help you to develop your resonant voice.

Is there someone’s voice that you listen to and you admire, enjoy and respect it? One that when you listen to it you assume absolute authority?

Ask yourself these questions.

  • Does my voice match my intention?
  • What impact does it have?
  • On a scale from 1-10, (1 being the whisper and 10 being the shout), where does my voice power lie on a regular basis?
  • Does it change in certain circumstances?  If so, what are they and how?
