At the 2014 Sochi Olympics, Sage Kotsenburg gave the US its first gold medal of those games in snowboard slopestyle.

In 2018, during the Pyeongchang, South Korea Games, Red Gerard took Gold for the US in the same event. Sage Kotsenburg, a friend, provided a blueprint for Gerard.

“Keep it fun. It doesn’t matter how it all goes.”

Red, when asked how is it he is able to stay so relaxed, have so much fun, and still lay down those strong runs  He responded:

“Honestly, it’s all mentality. I was so comfortable with who I am. I’m comfortable as a human. I know who I am. I know what I can give to the world. I was so relaxed just knowing that. I was really at peace with myself.”

Kyle Mack, Gerard’s U.S. teammate exclaimed:

“In that Gold Medal run, from top to bottom he was just flawless and smooth. “Not one bump, not one mistake.”
